Screw pumps are able to adapt to liquids of different viscosities due to their unique structure and working principle. Regarding the viscosity range of the medium conveyed by screw pumps, there are certain differences, which mainly depend on the specific model of the pump and the manufacturer's recommendation. Generally speaking, screw pumps are suitable for liquids with a viscosity range of 0.5-106 mm²/s. It is also claimed that they convey liquids with a viscosity range of 3.0-760 mm²/s. However, in some special cases, depending on the size and design of the pumps, screw pumps are also capable of conveying media with viscosities of up to 37,000-200,000 centipoise. Screw pumps work on the principle of oil drainage through a closed chamber formed between the rotor and stator which are not connected to each other. When the rotor rotates, these closed chambers will move along the axis from the suction end to the discharge end. With the disappearance of closed chambers at the discharge end, the crude oil in the cavity will be evenly squeezed to the discharge end, while at the same time in the suction end to re-form a new low-pressure cavity, sucking in new crude oil. This continuous process of formation, transportation and disappearance enables the screw pump to transport fluids continuously and evenly.
In terms of conveying medium, screw pumps are not only suitable for low viscosity liquids, such as water and fuel oil, but also capable of conveying high viscosity liquids, such as lubricating oils and various polymers. In addition, the screw pump also has a strong ability to transport media containing particles or fibers. These media particles can reach 30mm in diameter (not exceeding the eccentricity of the rotor), fiber length can reach 350mm (equivalent to 0.4 times the pitch of the rotor). Its content is generally up to 40% of the total amount of media, if the solids in the media for the fine powder, the high content of up to 60% or more.
It should be noted that the screw pump in the transfer of different viscosity of the liquid, its displacement will change. This is because the viscosity of the liquid affects the frictional resistance and flow performance inside the pump. Therefore, in practical applications, it is necessary to select the appropriate screw pump model and parameters according to the viscosity of the conveyed medium to ensure the normal operation and conveying efficiency of the pump.
In general, the screw pump has the advantages of wide range of viscosity of conveying medium, uniform and continuous flow, small vibration, low noise, etc., and has been widely used in petroleum, chemical, food, pharmaceutical and other industries. When selecting and using screw pumps, it is necessary to determine the appropriate pump type and parameters according to the specific conveying medium and process requirements to ensure the stable operation and efficient conveying of the pump.
